Naturally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is supposed to protect the environment, so lawmakers want heads to roll following the unthinkable agency blunder that left a river in Colorado polluted beyond comprehension. Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar is spearheading a campaign to impeach EPA Administrator Regina McCarthy by attempting to introduce a resolution that documents her “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Arguably worse than the initial error that destroyed the Animas River is the fact that McCarthy lied to Congress on multiple occasions, thus perjuring herself, according to the resolution. A letter documenting the various acts of deception is currently making the rounds in the capital to garner additional support to send the supposed environmental watchdog out to pasture. Their letter alleges at least three lies she has told since April of this year.
“Perjury and making false statements to Congress are an affront to the fundamental principles of our republic and the rule of law, and such behavior cannot be tolerated,” wrote Gosar. “This bill holds Administrator McCarthy accountable for her blatant deceptions and unlawful conduct.” The Colorado catastrophe is far from the first time legislators have grown irate during McCarthy’s reign, which started in July 2013 after an appointment by President Barack Obama. Earlier this summer, the House of Representatives passed a bill to stop a new EPA waterway protection rule that Gosar called a “job-killing, overreaching, new regulation.”
