Cited by its proposers, Obamacare was meant to see a clear reduction in the number of people visiting ER, as the opportunity to see a regular physician grew more expansive. A recent American College of Emergency Physicians report shows that is not the case. According to their survey, 3 out of 4 ER doctors actually have seen a notable increase from January, 2014. Furthermore, 70% of those actually considered their departments would be unable to handle a further “significant” rise in patient numbers.
So why is this happening? Quite simply, the introduction of Obamacare has magnified the shortage of primary care doctors available. The notion of “if you like your doctor, you can keep you doctor” can be discounted. Many more people are just going straight to the Emergency Room for treatment.
