The U.S. Department of Commerce’s recently released first quarter fiscal year 2015 deficit report. Below are a few of the takeaways from that publication:
- In the first three months of fiscal year 2015 the government has spent $916 billion. This is 9% higher than the amount spent during the first quarter of fiscal year 2014.
- The federal government spent $333 billion just in December. This is 44% more than was spent in December 2013.
- The first quarter deficit for fiscal year 2015 is $177 billion. This equals a 2% increase over the deficit from the same time last year.
- The federal government has taken in more than $335 billion in taxes during the first three months of fiscal year 2015 alone. That equates to an 18% year-over-year increase.
