“Every prediction they made about it [Obamacare] turned out to be wrong. It’s working better than even I expected,” states President Obama. Perhaps he should take a stroll around his hometown of Washington, D.C. and take a good look around. He’ll find that the current number of healthcare plans available through the D.C. Obamacare Exchange is now 162 – this is around only half the number available when Obamacare was introduced.
Aetna Life Insurance recently wrote to many Washington residents to tell them they may well lose the plans they had previously purchased through D.C. Health Link. The plans in question are “Preferred Provider Organization” plans, popular with individuals and families alike, which allow patients to visit any in-network physician / healthcare provider without the need for a prior referral. This means people wishing that option have only one avenue – a plan with CareFirst, which will cost them possibly 17% more.
Obama views the Affordable Care Act as a “success,” in that millions of Americans now have health insurance. It appears to have escaped his attention that millions more Americans have been left with higher-costing premiums, many of whom having already lost their preferred plans.
